வினையை -உம் பெயரெச்சத்துடன் “அது” சேர்த்தால் தொழிற்பெயர் கிடைக்கும்: படிக்கும் + அது → படிப்பது (the act of reading). இது ஒரு பெயர் போலச் செயல்படும்: “படிப்பது நல்லது” (reading is good).

Add அது to the -உம் participle to make a verbal noun: படிப்பது (reading / the act of reading), செய்வது (doing), ஓடுவது (running). It works like a noun: படிப்பது நல்லது = reading is good.

தொழிற்பெயர் வாக்கியத்தில் எழுவாயாக (subject) வரும். அது பெயரால் கருதப்படுவதால், விவரிக்கும் வினை அஃறிணை ஒன்றன்பால்: “படிப்பது நல்லது”, “எனக்குப் பாடுவது பிடிக்கும்.”

The verbal noun acts as the subject. Since it counts as one neuter thing, the verb agrees as அஃறிணை singular: படிப்பது நல்லது (studying is good), எனக்குப் பாடுவது பிடிக்கும் (I like singing — lit. singing is pleasing to me).
