 பேரன் —  பாட்டி, ஒரு கதை சொல்லுங்கள்! 
Grandma, tell a story!  
 பாட்டி —  சரி. ஒரு நாள் ஒரு காகத்திற்குத் தாகம் எடுத்தது. 
All right. One day a crow felt thirsty.  
 பேரன் —  அப்புறம் என்ன ஆயிற்று? 
Then what happened?  
 பாட்டி —  அது ஒரு குடத்தில் கொஞ்சம் தண்ணீரைப் பார்த்தது. ஆனால் தண்ணீர் குறைவாக இருந்தது. 
It saw a little water in a pot. But the water was low.  
 பாட்டி —  காகம் சிறிய கற்களைக் கொண்டுவந்து குடத்தில் போட்டது. தண்ணீர் மேலே வந்தது. காகம் தண்ணீரைக் குடித்தது. 
The crow brought small stones and dropped them in the pot. The water rose. The crow drank the water.  

விளக்கம் · Explanation

கதை கடந்த காலத்தில் வரும். “இருந்தது, பார்த்தது, போட்டது, குடித்தது” — இவை அஃறிணை (காகம்) ஒன்றன்பால் இறந்தகால வினைகள். எல்லாம் -அது (அல்லது -தது/-ற்று) என்று முடிகின்றன.

A story is told in the past tense. இருந்தது (was), பார்த்தது (saw), போட்டது (dropped), குடித்தது (drank) all describe one non-rational thing (the crow), so they end in -அது. This is the அஃறிணை ஒன்றன்பால் (singular neuter) ending.

“ஒரு நாள்”, “அப்புறம்”, “ஆனால்” போன்ற சொற்கள் கதையை இணைக்கின்றன. இவற்றைப் பயன்படுத்தினால் கதை இயல்பாக ஓடும்.

Connectors like ஒரு நாள் (one day), அப்புறம் (then), ஆனால் (but) link the events. Use them and your story will flow naturally.
