புணர்ந்த சொல்லை இரு சொல்லாகப் பிரித்தல், மீண்டும் சேர்த்தல்.

இதுவரை சொற்களைச் சேர்த்தோம். இப்போது எதிர்த் திசை: புணர்ந்த சொல்லைப் பார்த்து, மூல இரு சொற்களை மீட்டெடுப்போம். மாற்றம் இல்லாத சேர்க்கை ‘இயல்பு’; எழுத்து மாறும் சேர்க்கை ‘விகாரம்’.

So far we have joined words. Now the reverse: look at a joined word and recover its two originals. A join where nothing changes is இயல்பு (natural); a join where something changes — appears, drops, doubles, shifts — is விகாரம் (altered).

விதிகள் · The rules

புணர்ச்சி இருவகை: ஒன்றும் மாறாது சேர்வது இயல்பு; எழுத்து தோன்றி, கெட்டு, மிகுந்து, திரிந்து சேர்வது விகாரம்.

விதி 1

Every join is one of two: இயல்பு, where the two words simply abut with no change, or விகாரம், where a letter appears, drops, doubles or shifts. Naming this first tells you how to split.

‘மரம்வீடு’ போல் ஒன்றும் மாறாதது இயல்பு. ‘மரக்கொம்பு’ விகாரம் (க இரட்டித்தது). பிரிக்கும்போது விகாரத்தை நீக்கி மூல வடிவைக் காண வேண்டும்: மரக்கொம்பு → இரட்டை ‘க’ ஒன்றை நீக்கு → மர + கொம்பு.

A join like மரம் + வீடு that changes nothing is இயல்பு. மரக்கொம்பு is விகாரம் (க doubled). To split, you undo the change: in மரக்கொம்பு, drop one of the doubled க's, giving மர + கொம்பு.

பிரிக்கும்போது, தோன்றியதை நீக்கு; கெட்டதை மீட்டுவை; மிகுந்ததைக் குறை; திரிந்ததை முன்வடிவாக்கு.

விதி 2

To split: remove what appeared (a glide), restore what dropped (the short-u), reduce what doubled, and turn a shifted consonant back to its original. Each process reverses cleanly.

கதியை → ‘ய்’ நீக்கு → கதி + ஐ. அதை → கெட்ட உகரம் மீட்டு → அது + ஐ. பொற்குடம் → ற் ஐ ன் ஆக்கு → பொன் + குடம். ஒவ்வொரு செயலுக்கும் நேர் எதிர் உண்டு.

கதியை → drop the ‘ய்’ → கதி + ஐ. அதை → restore the lost u → அது + ஐ. பொற்குடம் → turn ற் back to ன் → பொன் + குடம். Every forward rule has a clean inverse.
