விளக்கம் · Explanation

நெருக்கமானவரிடம் (நண்பர், குழந்தை, தம்பி/தங்கை) வினையடியையே ஏவலாகச் சொல்லலாம்: வா, போ, கேள், படி, உட்கார், கொடு.

With close people — friends, children, a younger sibling — the bare verb root is the command: வா come, போ go, கேள் listen, படி read, உட்கார் sit, கொடு give.

மரியாதை வடிவத்தோடு ஒப்பிடுங்கள்: வா ↔ வாருங்கள், கேள் ↔ கேளுங்கள். தவறான இடத்தில் நெருக்கமான வடிவம் முரட்டுத்தனமாகத் தோன்றும்; யாரிடம் பேசுகிறீர்கள் என்பதைக் கவனியுங்கள்.

Compare with the polite forms: வா ↔ வாருங்கள், கேள் ↔ கேளுங்கள். The plain form can sound rude to an elder or stranger, so match the form to the person you are speaking to.

Give the same instruction two ways: to a friend வா, உட்கார், படி; to an elder வாருங்கள், உட்காருங்கள், படியுங்கள். Feel the difference in respect.
