விளக்கம் · Explanation

இறந்தகால எதிர்மறை மிக எளிது: வினையின் அடி + அ + வில்லை. செய் → செய்யவில்லை, போ → போகவில்லை, சாப்பிடு → சாப்பிடவில்லை. இடம், திணை, பால் எதுவும் மாறாது!

Past negation is wonderfully simple: take the verb's infinitive (செய்ய, போக, சாப்பிட) and add வில்லை. செய்யவில்லை (did not do), போகவில்லை, சாப்பிடவில்லை. The form never changes for person, class, or number — one shape fits all.

“நான் வரவில்லை”, “அவன் வரவில்லை”, “அவர்கள் வரவில்லை” — அனைத்தும் ஒன்றே. வினா: “வந்தாயா?” → பதில்: “இல்லை, வரவில்லை.”

So நான் வரவில்லை, அவன் வரவில்லை, அவர்கள் வரவில்லை are all identical. To answer ‘did you come?’ (வந்தாயா?) you say இல்லை, வரவில்லை. Don't try to mark the person — that's the beauty of it.
