“படித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்”, “எழுதிவிட்டேன்” என்று செயலின் ‘நிலையை’ — தொடருகிறதா, முடிந்ததா — காட்டிப் பேசினீர்கள். அதைச் செய்வது துணைவினைகள்.

You already showed the state of an action — whether it is ongoing or finished: படித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறேன் (I am reading), எழுதிவிட்டேன் (I have written). Auxiliary verbs do this.

துணைவினை (இரு, கொள், விடு, வை) தனிப் பொருளை இழந்து, செயலின் ‘நிலையை’ — தொடர்நிலை, முற்றுநிலை — மட்டும் சேர்க்கும். முதன்மை வினை எச்சமாக நிற்கும்.

An auxiliary (இரு, கொள், விடு, வை) loses its own meaning and adds only aspect — whether the action is ongoing or completed. The main verb stays as a participle in front of it.

தொடர்நிலை (progressive): செய் + து + கொண்டு + இரு → செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறேன் (I am doing). முற்றுநிலை (perfect): செய் + து + விடு → செய்துவிட்டேன் (I have done). செய்திருக்கிறேன் = ‘இரு’வாலும் முற்றுநிலை.

Progressive: செய்து + கொண்டு + இரு → செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறேன் (I am doing). Perfect: செய்துவிட்டேன் (I have done). With இரு alone, செய்திருக்கிறேன் also means 'I have done'.

‘வை’ பயனை வைத்திருத்தல்/சேமித்தலைக் காட்டும்: ‘எழுதிவைத்தேன்’ (I wrote it down and kept it), ‘சமைத்துவைத்தாள்’ (she cooked and kept it ready). ‘கொடு’வும் பிறர்க்காகச் செய்தலைச் சேர்க்கும்: ‘செய்துகொடுத்தான்’.

The auxiliary வை marks doing-and-keeping for later: எழுதிவைத்தேன் (I wrote it down and kept it), சமைத்துவைத்தாள் (she cooked and kept it ready). Similarly கொடு adds doing for someone: செய்துகொடுத்தான் (he did it for them).
