முதல் நிலையில் “வணக்கம்” சொன்னீர்கள்; இன்று ஒரு பத்தியைச் சொல், தொகை, வேற்றுமை, அணி வரை பகுக்கிறீர்கள். பேச்சிலிருந்து தொடங்கி, அப்பேச்சை விளக்கும் இலக்கணம் வரை வந்துவிட்டீர்கள். இது பெரிய பயணம்.

In Level 1 you said வணக்கம். Today you can take a paragraph apart down to word, compound, case and figure. You began with speech and arrived at the grammar that explains that very speech. That is a long road well travelled.

விதிகளை மட்டும் மனனம் செய்தால் போதாது; உண்மை நூல்களைப் படிக்கும்போதே அவை உயிர் பெறும். ஒவ்வொரு வாக்கியத்திலும் தொகையையும் வேற்றுமையையும் அணியையும் கண்டறிந்து படியுங்கள். அறிவு பழகப் பழக நிலைக்கும்.

Rules learned by heart are not enough; they come alive only when you read real texts. As you read, spot the compounds, cases and figures in each sentence. Knowledge settles in only through practice.

தொடக்கத்திற்கு ஒளவையாரின் “ஆத்திசூடி” (குறுகிய நீதிமொழிகள்) எளிது: “அறம் செய விரும்பு.” பிறகு திருவள்ளுவரின் “திருக்குறள்” — அறம், பொருள், இன்பம் மூன்றையும் சொல்லும் 1330 குறள். அதன்பின் நவீன புதினம், சிறுகதை, நாளிதழ்ச் செய்தி படியுங்கள்.

Begin with Auvaiyār's ஆத்திசூடி — short maxims like அறம் செய விரும்பு ('desire to do good'). Then Tiruvaḷḷuvar's திருக்குறள், 1330 couplets on virtue, wealth and love. After that, move to modern novels, short stories and the daily newspaper.

பேச்சுவழக்கைப் பேசவும், செந்தமிழை எழுதவும், இலக்கணத்தால் இரண்டையும் விளக்கவும் இப்போது இயலும். தொடர்ந்து கேளுங்கள், படியுங்கள், எழுதுங்கள், பேசுங்கள் — மொழி வாழ்வதும் வளர்வதும் வழக்கத்திலேயே. நல்வாழ்த்து!
